About the Composers

Gary Aldrich

Composer/Lyricist

Operatic bass/baritone GARY ALDRICH was more or less born into the Leather Community, having been raised in a former leather capital of the world, Gloversville, New York. He now lives in Albany, NY and works out of New York City. In August 2000, he and his partner, Ronald Miller, will relocate to Reno, Nevada, where Aldrich will join the voice faculty of the University of Nevada. He is a member of STARS M.C. in Albany, and an associate of Westchester's TWILIGHT GUARD. He has a particular fondness for cowboy/western leather, having actually been brought out into the leather community by a Leather Cowboy. He has staged or directed many pageants and contests in a variety of venues and has judged, performed at or emceed several leather events throughout the northeast... Want to know more? His professional bio follows:

Gary Aldrich made concert debuts in two major concert halls in 1999: in New York, at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall as soloist with the National Chorale, and in Washington, D. C., at the Kennedy Center as soloist with the Paul Hill Chorale and National Symphony Orchestra. He returned to Avery Fisher Hall in February and March 2000 as soloist with the National Chorale.

Equally at home in opera, Mr. Aldrich has played nearly thirty roles on American opera stages, and has appeared frequently in musical theatre. His reviews have been shining: 'a singer who can act!" (New Haven Register), "a performance of supreme musicality and texture... the voice is expressive and colorful . . .pinpoint diction" (Pittsburgh Press) are typical examples. Aldrich's engagements as soloist include, among others, appearances with the Philadelphia Orchestra as well as with the symphonies of Honolulu, Sacramento, Charleston, Syracuse, Reno, Albany, Berkeley, and Phoenix.

In the fall of 2000, Mr. Aldrich will join the voice performance faculty of the University of Nevada/Reno, and makes his Los Angeles debut in Bach's Mass in B Minor with the William Hall Chorale in October 2000.

National opera company appearances include the Opera Festival of New Jersey, Hawaii Opera, Washington Opera, Syracuse Opera, Utah Opera, Augusta Opera, Lake George Opera, Berkshire Opera, and Whitewater Opera, among others.
